The Banta Bowl was built in 1965 and is named after its benefactor, George Banta Jr., a 1910 graduate of Lawrence College. It is near and dear to the hearts of the Lawrence football teams that have played there over the years. The stadium is nestled into a natural ravine and anchors seating for 5,000 spectators, the press booth, and team rooms into the natural hillside. It has been described as "the finest of its kind in the Midwest conference and one of the finest among small private colleges in the country."
